From the couple, Doug & Rhonda “What we have is a 23 year-long and going strong love story. Despite plentiful and amazing moments of beauty and goodness, hardship has had its’ place in our story too … a child diagnosed with life-threatening cancer, another child with a soulmate lost to a car accident and yet another child tortured with thoughts of suicide … all during job losses and multiple moves and school changes. The good times are great but the bad times actually make the good times that much sweeter. We have learned that love isn’t just about a feeling or something you say, it’s about behavior and it’s a choice. It’s about choosing to love each other, being for one another and a choice to not quit each other.
Love is not self-seeking …
Love gives the benefit of the doubt
Love does … and keeps doing
Love is being for one another and has each other’s back
Love doesn’t quit
Love is ‘boots on the ground’ in the midst of mighty life battles
Love doesn’t keep score but goes for the ‘win’ together
Love holds on to patience when it feels like there’s none left
Love is kind when it doesn’t feel deserved
Love gives even when you feel drained
Love hopes in seemingly hopeless situations
Love understands that rainy days produce rainbows and growth
Love looks forward with confident expectation
Love is the mundane of everyday
Love is also the occasional over the moon romantic surprises
Love is secure when everything goes wrong
Love is measured when everything goes right
Love celebrates and it comforts
… and we could go on and on …
1 Corinthians 13:13 1And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
One of our favorite songs says it best:
‘There were times when it looked like nothing could save them’
‘And there were times when it looked like nothing could break them’
‘There’ll be a thousand moments for you to say “I told you”
And a million more for us to say “I love you”
‘Live every day hoping
That when we feel broken
Our scars make us golden
Still choose you and I’”
